An extremely handsome bet on ‘under the radar’ three year old Runflatout has played havoc with the odds in the Kentucky Derby Futures Betting pool.  Following what is clearly a ‘sharp’ wager, Runflatout’s win pool amount dwarfed those of every other horse in the field and left him the 5-2 favorite among 24 betting interests.

Off another scorchingly fast performance in last weekend’s San Vincente, The Factor has become a hot item in horse racing circles.  Trainer Bob Baffert remains skeptical about The Factor’s Kentucky Derby prospects, but he’s at least going to give him a shot to see if he has what it takes for Triple Crown competition.

Current Kentucky Derby betting favorite and last year’s Breeder’s Cup Juvenile champion Uncle Mo is expected to make his season debut in the Timely Writer Stakes scheduled for March 12 at Gulfstream Park north of Miami.  It’s something of a surprising move–the conventional wisdom until now had Uncle Mo running in the Grade 2, $350,000 Tampa Bay Derby at Tampa Bay Downs on the same day.  Technically speaking, the Timely Writer will likely be a less competitive race–it carries no conditions and is open to all three year old horses and will be run over a one turn mile.
